In Logic Pro X, I have the Reference plugin on my master bus and it works great, but it's hard to dial in presets here as well since I can't record enable my channels in Logic without have the direct signal and the USB-signal from the Axe mixer together - making it impossible to hear the sound correctly - hence only hearing the unprocessed direct guitar signal from the AxeĪt the moment, I hook my Axe directly to my Mac via USB. Using the Axe as a sound card watching YouTube or playing music from iTunes works with the Reference - but it does not affect my guitar signal. My headphones are quite hyped so I want to flatten those with the Reference to get a more accurate representation of the sound. I find it very hard to dial in sounds on the Axe because I cannot get the Axe to work through the Reference as it's currently only picks up computer audio and not my guitar input.

So far I have gone more than an hour at full reference volume on the mix test without running out of the room 😉 SPL meter is reading the same as always – 74 dB for most things, 85 dB for the ZZ Top and Conspirator.Anyone here using the Axe FX III through the Sonarworks Reference 4 system?

Happily I can flip between ARC2 and Reference 4 without much difficulty – mad skillz ya know… I’m really buzzed about the loss of the buzzy-room bass…really. The boomy jazz bass is still very bass present, but the fretboard sound is quite “visible” and no longer lost. The SoundID Listen, on the other hand, is aimed at music lovers who want to optimise their listening experience with their headphones.

My “Mix Test” doesn’t get the whole house vibrating anymore on the dub music. Sonarworks SoundID Listen - Riga-based software company Sonarworks has already made a name for itself in the field of music production with Reference 4, calibration software for studio monitors and headphones. Now I get to listen to music for a couple of weeks to re-train my ears 😉 Definitely a different adjustment than ARC2. I got good by the end and could put the mic almost exactly where the software wanted it. When the software told me how far apart my speakers were to the half-inch I was excited to proceed. Took a bit of fooling around to get a proper level so I could calibrate. OK…I’ll get the Sonarworks microphone and do the whole thing. Tried really hard to build room profiles using my reference mic from ARC2. Then you can apply EQ on top to mix your track as you desire, knowing that the character of your sound-system has been rectified.

It is a one-button correction of your sound systems character, so you can produce a flat sound relative to other systems. The XREF 20 microphone is a smalldiaphragm, phantompowered, omnidirectional device. Finally there’s the Sonarworks calibrated measurement microphone. The Studio Edition of Reference 4 ships with Sonarworks’ XREF 20 measurement microphone. Then we get the PLAPA discount, so I decided to go for the full Reference 4 upgrade. Sonarworks Reference 4 is NOT a one button, no-nonsense, EQ. Like the Sonarworks plugin, Systemwide worked without hitch on my iMac. Impressed enough to purchase the headphone license. Separate profiles for my JBL LSR305, M-Audio AV-40, Casio PX-330 piano (has line in so I can work with the piano but have all the sounds).ĭecided to try Sonarworks for headphones on the laptop…was impressed with the demo. I have lived in the world of IK/Multimedia ARC 2 (Automatic Room Correction) for about 3 years. I need to add some love to the Sonarworks world.
